It’s 10:00pm. The smell of the studio is dank. The lights are low and will get lower every half-hour as the music gets deeper. MisterG has his tracks ready to go as he takes the mic in hand and announces his presence on the radio. He’s a fill-in on The Mad Marcus Rock & Soul Revue show, which is on every Saturday night from 10:00 – 12:00pm.

Starting mellow with a little Ray Charles and easing into some acid jazz, MisterG is in the groove and the night has just begun. Before it’s over our musical journey will take our ear-holes through the sounds of Nikki Yanofsky, LL Cool J, Perry Farrell, Lenny Kravitz, Joan Jett, Prince, and Otis Clay & Johnny Rawls, to name but few!

In the studio as well is DJ-in-training, DJ Rachael-K! She’s new to the scene and MisterG is her guide. Learning the board and getting comfortable on-air is tonight’s lesson. Rachael does it all smoothly and effortlessly!

We are halfway through the show when the phone rings. Rachael and I stare at it and then at MisterG. His expression screams, “NO!” But he picks it up and says politely, “Sorry, no ‘shout-outs’ on my show.” MisterG’s stance on shout-outs and requests is firm. “I prepare music for listeners to experience! Just sit back and enjoy the ride!” he says with a grin.

MisterG has been on-air for nearly 10 years, starting at radio station WHUS in Connecticut. Currently he is on-air every Saturday morning from 9:00am – 12:00pm at 91.7 WSUM, Madison, WI. He can be heard on 89.9 WORT when the mood suits him and the station needs him!
